Agriculture
Our region is a breadbasket of resources for the growing renewable energy marketplace. Our open agricultural land and locally grown biomass fuel stocks bring with them an opportunity and a caution- the opportunity to create, own, and use our own energy, strengthening local economies, and the caution that others who wish to buy our land and resources and sell our energy to others threaten to unbalance our region's agricultural heritage.
The pressing need for energy independance presents opportunities for our region to prosper economically. Locally owned sources of biomass can be used to meet our region's energy needs, while the development of
homegrown energy technology and expertise will be of great economic and quality of life value to our region.
Improving energy efficiency and access to energy on the farm is one of the Energy Resource Center's top focuses, and the links above and to the left include information about energy saving tips for the farm, financial assistance for renewable and efficient energy projects, and other resources.
