Green Building
 
This site provides a number of resources regarding green building practices, products, and technologies, as well as available financial opportunities. Please visit our Building Trades Financial Assistance Page for additional funding resources, and our Renewable Energy Page for information about the use of renewable energy in both new and existing buildings.
 
Participate in a monthly forum for the construction trades, suppliers and their clients to network and gain expertise and knowledge about building green. Seminars focus on design and construction techniques associated with green buildings as well as their economic, energy-related, and environmental benefits. Breakfast seminars are held the third Thursday of every month from 7:30 to 9:30am at locations within the SEDA-COG region.

The Building Performance Institute, Inc. (BPI) is a leader supporting the building performance industry. Contractor or consumer, this site supplies the information and connections you will need to succeed in building high quality, energy efficient homes.
 
RESNET provides certification for building performance contractors as well as provides scales from which buildings might be measured for efficiency and performance. This site outlines the guidelines and process of becoming a HERS rater and provides information for consumers, contractors, builders, and affiliates concerning building performance.
 
PA Home Energy integrates the concepts of whole house performance and green building design. This program is dedicating to helping Pennsylvanians reduce their home energy use. Their website provides educational material and a calendar of building performance training and events taking place in Pennsylvania.
 
Green Advantage is a green building Environmental Certification program that brings consumers together with certified building practitioners who have proven knowledge about green building techniques and approaches. This site provides certification information.
 
The U.S. Green Building Council is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to the implementation of LEED certification as the national green building standard. Visit this site for more information about LEED, as well as information about green building courses, resources, and news and events.
 
The USGBC has created a new version of the LEED rating system that delivers against key human and environmental health impacts, and puts in place a new framework for weighing credits according to the best available science. This site makes available the new version of LEED for public commentary and provides additional information about the timeline of implementation.
 
The Green Building Association of Central Pennsylvania is a membership organization dedicated to promoting environmentally responsible design, planning, construction, and operation of the built environment through education, outreach and networking. Visit this site to get more information about membership in this organization, resources for green building, and green building events.
 
This document outlines a program whereby qualified organizations can receive reimbursement for U.S. Green Building Council Leed Certification programs. Fees to a maximum of $5,000 per project located in PPL’s Pennsylvania Service Region can be reimbursed. Projects which achieve Gold certification will be rewarded with an additional $5,000 grant.

Sustainable Buildings Rating Systems Summary
This technical report, created by the US DOE's Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, evaluates the use of different rating systems with application to federal building standards. Systems evaluated include the BREEAM system, the CASBEE rating system,the GBTool, Green Globes USA, and the LEED certification system.  
 
This document, led by the American Society of Landscape Architects, aims to supplement existing green building and land use guidelines and to become a stand-alone tool for site sustainability.

This site provides information about Green Communities, which provides funding and information to help housing developers build and rehabilitate houses to become better for the environment without high costs. Additionally, Green Communities assists state and local governments concerning housing and economic development policies to ensure policies are smart and sustainable.
