Local Government

Energy costs are increasing. As PA "uncaps" its energy rates, electricity consumers will pay real market costs for generating electricity- costs that are at least 30% higher than current rates. "Business as usual" is an increasingly expensive option, especially for our local government budgets.

The ERC offers a number of resources to help local governments address their rising energy costs. We provide free utility bill analyses to local governments and offer low-cost on-site energy assessments to assist local governments to prioritize efficient and renewable energy opportunities. Local governments should first measure their energy costs, then evaluate the potential for both short and long term energy use reduction, then implement those changes.

Use the links above and to the left to access information about the ERC's LED Traffic Light program, saving the borough of Danville alone over $10,000 a year; the ERC's Utilitiy Bill Analysis and Energy Assessment programs; financial resources available to local governments for renewable and efficient energy programs; and other resources.
